The Essence of Destiny

Jeff: I got this from my previous notes in a training that I’ve attended… need to watch-out the thoughts, coz it may lead to destiny…

Watch your thoughts, for they become words.
Choose your words, for they become actions.
Understand your actions, for they become habits.
Study your habits, for they become your character.
Develop your character, for they become your destiny.

My Amazing Experience of Startup Weekend!

as some of you may know, I love to learn and love to teach, I’ve created a community of learners and trainers to connect, called “The Learning Addict” http://www.facebook.com/learningaddict and pre-launched it last July 2011, the result was amazing, trainers learned more, and learners got what they need. We have launched 6 training programs (photoshop, blogging, real estate 101, boosting referrals, starting a food cart, and deciphering the language of finance) conducted by experts in those fields.

And then I saw this opportunity from Startup Weekend that I can pitch in this new idea of mine, hoping that I can validate the business idea and enhance it further thru collaboration. I was surprised that I’m not the only one with this concept (which is connecting teachers and learners). I met Elbert, a talented educator, artist and a great leader, his concept was more on online training called Learning Hub and mine was more on offline training with a webinar as future enhancement.

There was a voting process in Startup Weekend, whereby people will choose the startup concept they like, and fortunately both our concepts was chosen. Since it was similar, we merged as a team and started working on it!

The Startup Weekend’s process is when your startup concept is chosen, you get to pick/ recruit your own team and you will be given time to work on your concept and will be presenting to the judges on the last day, and judges will choose the top 6.

I’ve a great team with smart developers, dedicated project managers, creative artist and leader. Plus the mentors who guided us all the way.

Amazing result happens when there is collaboration! to cut the story short! We won in the Startup Weekend first prize together with another team Ventee (a startup concept I like), the result was a tie.

My objective was satisfied, I’ve validated my concept and saw the potential of it. We NOW name it Qwago “Bringing Teachers and Learners Together”

Keep on Learning!

Learning should not end after college! KEEP ON LEARNING

WHY? “Why do we need to learn?”
Our world is growing and changing very fast due to the exchange of ideas and collaboration among the people.

New technologies like cloud computing, new economic model like collaborative consumption and new teaching techniques like NLP and Accelerated Learning has been introduced. and a lot more in different sectors.

Learning and keeping ourselves up to date will definitely provide us opportunities that will help us in our career or business

WHAT? “What to learn?”
I’ve created my own formula on what to learn

(minus) Negative Habits
Learn how to Un-Learn. There are certain habits that we acquired when we are still young due to series of events, and it became automatic and sometimes we are not aware of, it can be mannerism, it can be temper, it can be anything that does not contribute to goodness. Like for me, I’ve this feeling of not good enough, I always need to achieve and prove people that I’m good. It’s not a good habit. And being aware of it is one way to lessen Negative Habits

(plus) Positive Habits
Learn things that will contribute to overall goodness. Like reading books, keeping physically fit, being punctual, having integrity, and a lot more. We can slowly learn, develop and add more to our positive habits. You may check my previous post about Daily Score Card, a system of adding positive habits.

(multiply) Skills
Learn and develop new skills, and keep up to date information, whether it’s sports, business/ making money, or career, etc. will definitely make us be more efficient and more productive in our career/ community/ business.

(equal) Positive Smiley Person
I believe with this Learning formula, developing character and skills will generate positive results, and therefor make us smile and become a blessing to the world:)

HOW? “How to learn?”
Whether we like it or not we are learning already from our day to day experiences. And the question is how fast and how effective is our learning? how do we boost our learning curve? My advice, is read books, attend workshop/ seminars, talk to people, read magazines/ newspaper/ ezine related to your field/ interest. Below are my suggested books.

Bible? Yes, a lot of books in the market is based from the Bible, so it’s best to read from the source, God’s word.
